The Bauges Mountains and Lake Annecy

Around 75km long with moderate climbing, this route begins on quiet roads through wine country which leads into the beautiful Bauges Mountains, offering up birds-eye views of Lake Annecy below.

The day starts in Gresy-sur-Isere and the Route des Vins. It's a steady 8km to St-Pierre-d'Albigny passing through the vineyards of Savoie and to the start of the Col du Frene. Under 10km in length and a 7% average gradient, this is a challenging climb on a quiet road. Once at the summit, we then drop down on to a beautiful plateau with the Bauges mountains on either side. We carry on along this pleasant road to find a lunch stop and to refuel for the small climb that takes us towards the Col de Leschaux. With the last climb of the day behind us we descend the 10km to Lake Annecy. The views are breathtaking, as the lake comes into view with Annecy in the distance. At St Jorioz, we join the bike path, skirting the lake, as we head back in the direction of Ugine.

It is easy to add distance to this route or possibly close out the loop.
