Described as ‘Beautiful, but heartbreaking’ the famous Col de la Madeleine links the Tarentaise and Maurienne Valleys during the milder months. Its first tour appearance was in 1969 and has featured a further 25 times since. A challenging climb, rewarded by stunning views of Mont Blanc on a clear day.
This one goes right from our doorstep. A gentle climb from La Tania to Meribel Village leading into a fast and flowing descent to Moutiers.
9km along from Moutiers the mighty Madeleine starts. From this side, it is 26km to the top, and apart from a flat section halfway up, the Col is quite unrelenting.
At the top, there are two, very welcoming cafes to choose from and enjoy a bite to eat whilst taking in the magnificent view down towards the Maurienne Valley.
Once fueled up, we are ready to take on the descent the same way we rode up. Finishing at the bottom or riding onto Moutiers for pick-up.
