Beaufort – The hunt for cheese

Cycling, like life, doesn't always have to be head down and flat out. Sometimes it's nice to take the time to look up and enjoy the finer things; like wonderful scenery and cheese! Join us as we cycle up the Beaufortain Valley. Whilst the cycle along the valley floor is gentle the flanking mountains are anything but.

Starting in La Bathie we head to Albertville and into the Beaufortain Valley. There is a small climb as we head up to Venthon from where the road parallels the Doron de Beaufort. It's back on the flat to Quiege where the road picks up again and climbs gently to Villard sur Doron.

To your left is the ski resort of Les Saisies and the Col des Saisies; part of the Routes des Grandes Alpes that joins Lake Geneva and the French Riveria via the high passes of the French Alps.

It's only another 4km further to the famous Beaufort and its cheese, nestled amongst the surrounding peaks. Of course, it would be rude not to stop for a cheese-based lunch and enjoy the vista.

Above Beaufort is the beautiful ski resort of Arêches-Beaufort and of course the wonderful Cormet de Roseland. The huge lake of Roseland with its beautiful chapel sits just below the Col at around 1600 metres and features heavily on the landscape.

Pretty inspiring, and maybe it will inspire you to take on the Cormet de Roselend and admire the valley from above!
